IWERE AGRICULTURAL SYMPOSIUM
Warri Kingdom is endowed with abundant natural and human resources, including its significant contribution to Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. In line with current initiatives to diversify the economy away from oil dependence, we aim to engage stakeholders in discussions about embracing agriculture as a key driver of economic growth. To this end, we are organizing the inaugural edition of the Iwere Agricultural Symposium under the theme: Diversifying the Economy of Iwere Nation: A Focus on Agriculture.
The Symposium is a social enterprise initiative of ROLI MABO FOUNDATION in collaboration with the Royal Iwere Society. The objective is to take meaningful steps toward diversifying the economy by launching a pilot agricultural hubs project in the Ode-Itsekiri and Obonteghareda communities. This initiative will offer training, land allocation, and funding opportunities to unemployed and underemployed individuals, farmers, and agropreneurs.
The event aims to embrace 200 attendees who shall be screened and shortlisted into batches, and successful participants will receive training in short-term cash crop farming and be empowered to establish farms in clusters within the designated agricultural hubs. This will be a continuous cycle until we utilize most of our lands to diversify into agriculture.
We expect participation from key stakeholders, including financial institutions, ministries, FCMB, BoI, and other relevant organizations.
The symposium is scheduled for November 30, 2024, at EEU Hall, by Otres Fast Food, off Ogunu Road, Warri, Delta State, with registration starting at 10 a.m. prompt.
